OpenVPN Connect is the “official” application from OpenVPN Inc. and is designed to be more user-friendly VPN users with little technical knowledge. It’s less feature-rich than openvpn for Android, which is targeted towards more advanced OpenVPN users.
Openvpn for Android is a no-cost and open-source client created by Arne Schwabe that lets you connect to any VPN service that supports the OpenVPN protocol. If your device isn’t compatible with the pre-configured VPN applications available on the Google Play Store, this is a great alternative. It’s relatively install vpn on roku simple to set up. You will need to import the VPN profile files. (The configuration files are named.ovpn). These can be downloaded from your VPN provider’s site or by contacting live chat support.
If you’ve imported a profile, you simply tap one of the servers listed and connect to that server. Once connected all Internet traffic is routed through a secure tunnel and directed to the chosen server by the application. You can see your connection status and information in the Status tab. The kill switch is enabled by default. It will disable your internet connection when the VPN tunnel is lost.
The application also offers per-app VPN and an on-demand feature that automatically begins the VPN connection when the app is used and will continue to work even after your device is shut down or switches networks. However, the latter requires Android 7.0 or higher and may cause more battery drain than normal.
